This writing is based on the current states of affairs in our country (South Africa) and the well known verse – 2 Chronicles 7, verse 14

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Let’s take a few steps back and look at the current state of affairs in our country. Eighteen years ago, we received the status of democracy, all South Africans are seen as equal – with this equality all people should be seen, all people should be listened to, all have rights to equal opportunities. Including the equal opportunity to life – at Marikana, many lives had been taken away from them, during the truck strike, lots of damages occurred to business properties, many lives were lost as well. Petrol prices hiked more than ten times since the introduction of the new government, not to mention electricity, inflation, house prices etc. The president is planning alterations to his house, costing the tax payer over 200 million rand (approx 23.2 million US Dollars), the country is experiencing huge financial difficulties, yet his house renovations is costing the country large amounts of money.

With all of this in mind now my dear friend, fellow believer, everyone;
I urge all that we as a nation should bow down to Our God,
I urge all to humble themselves,
I urge that we all start praying for our nation, our country;
I urge that we all seek the face of God Almighty,
I urge that we will turn from our wicked ways…

God says in His word, in 2 Chronicles 7, verse 14: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

My friend I encourage you today, let’s take God Word for what It is, His Word is true, His Word will not return void (Isaiah 55 v 11). Friends, we should take the stand for what is right and pray to God Almighty – this goes to show that there is a lack of prayer amongst us Christians, or if we do pray, we are not praying rightfully. We need to submit ourselves to the Almighty God, resist the devil, and draw near to God; we need to cleanse our hands and our heart (James 4)

Friends, I don’t mean to be harsh, I don’t mean to force guilt upon anyone, because if that be the case – I would be first in line, i`d be the biggest culprit. Let us all pray to God Almighty for ourselves, for our family, for our friends, for our children, for our youth, for our enemies, for those far away from us, for our country, for the world to all draw near to God.

I’ve also included the honest lyrics of a group called Casting Crowns (I`m not promoting them, but they sing honest music) – the song is called: “what is His people prayed”. Here are the lyrics:

What if the armies of the Lord
Picked up and dusted off their swords
Vowed to set the captives free
And not let Satan have one more

What if the church for heaven’s sake
Finally stepped up to the plate
Took and stand upon God’s promise
And stormed hell’s rusty gates

What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face
And turn from their own way

And what would happen if we prayed
For those raised up to lead the way
Then maybe kids in school could pray
And unborn children see light of day

What if the life that we pursue
Came from a hunger for the truth
What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do

What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face
And turn from their own way

He said that they would hear
His promise has been made
He’s answered loud and clear, Yeah
If only we would pray

If My people called by My name
If they’ll humble themselves and pray
If My people called by My name
If they’ll humble themselves and pray

What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face, Yeah
And turn from their own way

He said that they would hear
His promise has been made
He’s answered loud and clear, Yeah
If only we would pray

What if His people prayed?

Break Away From Complacency

It Is At That Time When One Are Being Admired,
One Should Stand Up and Not Just Accept,
And Do Something to Adapt,
Get Out Of the Condition One Find Oneself In,
Whether One Be a Her, Or Be a Him,
Move Away From the Complacency,
And Look At Your Spot in the Hierarchy,
Things Will Not Change If You Do Not Change,
So Look at One’s Life and Re – Arrange,
Re – Arrange Where Needs To Be Done,
And Also Make Some Place for A Little More Fun,
You Should Also Not Overdo,
When It Comes To the Things You Do,

Always Be the Best at What You Do,
Don’t Allow the Past to Just Hunt You,
Break Away From the Cycle That Runs Through,
The Family in Which These Things Occurs,
Doesn’t Matter if there’s Rumours,
Even the Ones Close by Will Stir,
About You Being Higher Than the Rest,
As Long As You Know What Is Best,
Just Be Sure To Pass the Test,
People May Start To Talk,
You Just Walk the Straight Walk,
Even Though Some Would Treat You as a Dog,
No Fingers Can Be Shown,
No One Would Get You Down,
Some Would Want To Give You a Crown
Others Would Want To Throw a Stone,
Many Would Moan and Groan,
One Thing You Know, You’ll Never Be Alone

At Some Time in One’s Life,
One Have To Dream and Strive,
But It Does Not Have To End There,
And Some May Even Say, Life’s not Fair,
Good Things Does Not Always Come To Those Who Wait,
Let’s Just Get One Thing Very Straight,
Some Would Wait For All of There Life,
While Another Would Duck and Dive,
Cause Life May Just Throw One a Curve Ball,
And If Not Duck, One Might Just Fall,
That Is Just How These Things Are,
It Might Just Leave You with a Scar,
So Get Right Up and Break Away,
Otherwise, Complacency’s Here To Stay,
Lets Work Towards That Dream of Yours,
Don’t Just Lie Down, Get Off The Floor!

And when they wanted wine…

Every person has his or her own opinion about almost everything in this world. We have different opinions about life, about death, about heaven, about hell, about religion, about faith; we have different opinions about everything. As Christians, we turn to Jesus, we turn to the Word of God, we turn to God when we don’t know what else to do, we should turn to God first though, we should not turn to Him if all else fails.

The Psalmist says in chapter 121; I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth – he thus turned to God first, and that’s what we should do as well. When facing challenges in life, when looking for answers in life, when you are soul searching, turn to God, He speaks to us through His Word – we can thus study His Word, and it will be revealed to you in time.
If you have made the biggest and most important decision in your life by giving your life to the Lord and you have friends who have done the same, it is always good to encourage one another to press on to complete the race. It is good to encourage one another, but as I’ve mentioned earlier, we have different personalities, different opinions, different denominations, affiliations, doctrines, etc. Based on these differences, it may lead to clashes from time to time.

As born agains, we know that it is not our place or right to judge, and far too many are using this line to shift the focus away from what they are doing. If you should ask fellow siblings in Christ what their view is on the use of alcoholic beverages as Christians, many will indicate that it is fine to indulge. Many will shy away from the topic, while others will openly admit to their usage of such beverages, some will admit, but make an excuse that they are not getting drunk, not abusing it, only using it occasionally, or they only take ciders. It’s amazing how so many born- agains can do it and still sincerely believe it to be acceptable, many will even say that Jesus made wine, some will say Paul said not to drink water alone, but to add something stronger to help with the stomach. This is where spiritual wisdom comes in, discernment should apply.

Let us reason, let us examine, let us discern by looking at a few verses speaking about wine:

John 2: 3 – 8
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him,
They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have
I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother
saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner
of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water.
And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith
unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor
of the feast. And they bare it.

Proverbs 20: 1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
On many occasions throughout the bible, God speaks against the use of alcoholic drinks, but here in John, Jesus makes wine for the wedding guests. How weird is this? Even if you look at what Paul told Timothy, is this not contradictory to what God wants? We can now venture to the event where Jesus was having the last supper with His disciples, He poured wine for them while breaking bread, and He even told them that “this is my body”; “this is my blood”. If Jesus was having alcoholic drinks with His disciples over the Passover Festival, was He not going against the law? If you know your faith, if you know even a little about the bible, you would know that during the Passover Festival, everything had to be unleavened; bread had to be without yeast, while wine had to be non-alcoholic. If your stand is that Jesus had alcoholic beverage with His disciples, that would mean He was committing a sin. And the bible declares that He never sinned!( For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin. – Hebrew 4:15). My dear friend; as we go back to where Jesus turned water into wine, please do look at verse 10. Verse ten speaks of one holding back on the bad stuff until the guests are feeling the results of the “good stuff” – the “leader” posted a question, asking why they held back the “good stuff” until the guests was feeling tipsy/drunk/the results of having too many. Now by dwelling on this specific point, in collaboration with Proverbs 20 and many others – is it possible that Jesus would get them even more drunk than what they already were?
There are numerous indications to wine, drink and drinking in the King James Version of the Bible. A good number of people think in current terms, and accept as true that when wine is brought up it refers to alcoholic wine, essentially, that is not automatically true. The word wine has a broad array of meaning in the Bible, covering all from grape juice, to concentrated grape syrup to alcoholic wine. In Isaiah, God speaks of grapes, but refers to it as wine (Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all- Isaiah 65:8)

God wants to reach out to us, and He wants us to reach out to Him (Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners; and purify your hearts, double-minded ones. – James 4: 8). When we reach out to God, we need to be of sober habits (Therefore girding up the loins of your mind, being sober, perfectly hope for the grace being brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ,… – 1 Peter 1: 3), the bible states that we should not get drunk of wine, but rather of the Spirit of God (And do not be drunk with wine, in which is excess, but be filled with the Spirit, …Ephesians 5:18) . If we indulge in alcoholic drinks, can we say that we are of sober mind, body, and soul? Do we not know that our bodies are temples of God? (Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God shall destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which you are. – 1Corinthians 3:16-17). Some will probably say they don’t partake when they intend to reach out to God, but I say this; the bible states that we should bring glory to God in and through whatever we do (And everything, whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him. – Colossians 3:17). So right there lays the answer, whatever you do, bring glory to God in and through it. Furthermore, please note that the bible also say we should not allow whatever it is we do to be a stumbling block to another person (But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours becomes a stumbling block to those who are weak.- 1 Corinthians 8:9).

Would I?

If I Were There, What Would I Have Said?

Is There Anything I Would Have Done?

Would I Have Stood Amongst The Ones

Or Would I Have Want?

Would I Have Blown The Horn For The Crown Of Thorns?

Or Would I Press The Spear Further In His Rear?

Would I Have Gotten Thicker Nails

So The Holes More Prevails

Would I Be The One To Say ,

Gone He Be On This Day

Would I Spit In His Face,

Would I Want More Grace

Would I Have Gained

Did He Not Go Through This Pain

This Had To Come As The Profits Said It To Be

So That In The End He Would Set Us All Free
