Importance of knowledge (Word of God) as per Saint Matthew 4: 4

How do God speak to us?

God speak to us through His Word, through His Word. His Word is the word, or what we call the Bible. When the Word of God (Jesus) said in Matthew 4 verse 4, “Man shall not live of bread alone, but by every word that proceed out of the mouth of God”, what did He mean? It can be surmised that He was speaking about the person in different dimensions. A person can be split up in three parts, Mind, Body and Soul – when He touched on the topic, He touched on all three dimensions; the Mind, Body and the Soul.

Let’s Have a look at the Body

He spoke about the needs of the body, He mentions that the person (Man) are not to survive on the feeding of the body, the fleshly person alone. He acknowledges that the human being needs food to keep the physical body alive, but it does not end there…

Now for the Mind

Every word that proceed… for a word to proceed out of the mouth, one must hear and for one to hear and understand, one must think. In order to understand what you thinking / hearing / reading (the Word of God), the information must go through the mind of the person spoken about.

…as it enters the Soul

God uses His Spirit, His Holy Spirit to speak to our Souls. We thus need to allow our body to permit our minds to read (hear), understand (think) when Our God is speaking to us through His Word. 1 Corinthians 2 verses 9,10 says…it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

Bottom Line is…

The Word of God is very important for our growth in Christ, for our maturity in Christ, our Saviour.

John 6:63

Remember in the beginning, we spoke of the body and its needs, John takes it to the extreme by saying “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”
